Sandy Claws!

This was my entry for this year's "Season's Greetings" contest at 3D Commune. This is my first piece created with Poser 5, and I'm pretty pleased with the results. The cat is the same old P3 cat that comes with every version of Poser these days. I used P5's hair room to add dynamic strand-based hair to make the fur. I did the same with the tree in the background, importing a prop created in Amapi 5.1 and then adding hair to it to make the needles. The catnip Santa was modeled in Carrara 1.5 and imported into Poser 5. Once I had my Santa in Poser, I went to the setup room to add bones and make it poseable. I mapped the Santa doll using Steve Cox's UVMapper Classic, and then drew the texture in Corel Draw. The textures for the carpet, gifts, fur, and needles were made using the new node-based materials room in Poser 5. Again, I used UVMapper Classic to map the gifts so the textures actually wrap the way really wrapping paper would.

As of this writing, the contest is not yet closed. Deadline is midnight, 31 December 2002. Winners will be announced on 7 January 2003.
